WHAT IS VENTURING?

Venturing is a nationally recognized youth leadership program.  It provides an opportunity for youth ages 14 to 20 to experience planning and organizing events in a safe social setting.

Venturing groups are called Crews.  Each Crew has a qualified trained adult Advisor who facilitates young leaders as they plan and operate the Crew.  The Venturers select their Crew leaders (President, Treasurer, Vice Presidents, etc.) set up bylaws and meet on a bi-monthly basis to plan activities.

Last year, Crew 131 went whitewater rafting, cross country skiing, backpacking, kayaking, spent an overnight snow "Survivor Man" and got together for breakfast bicycling.

Venturing Crews are encouraged to plan a super activity each year — one that involves extensive planning and that provides an enriching experience for the youth.  Last year our super activity was the 2-week Whitewater Rafting trip on the Salmon River in Idaho.  In 2006, several crew members attended the World Jamboree in England, and their crew was selected to host Prince William for part of his visit to the Jamboree.

What do the Venturers take away from the Crew?

  • Friendship
  • Leadership experience -- through leadership training and positions in the Crew
  • Recognition for Leadership in College Applications
  • Recognition for Leadership in Job Applications
  • Great Memories
